Hunter and
James Named All-TCCAA, Four Other Players Named
All-Western Division
The Tennessee Community College Athletic Association
(TCCAA) released its all-conference and all-division
teams at the recent Region VII tournament and two
Southwest basketball players were selected All-TCCAA
in a vote by the conference’s coaches. In addition,
four other Southwest players were named to the
All-Western Division Team.

For the men’s team,
sophomore forward Deveyon Hunter (Memphis,
TN/Hamilton High School) garnered All-TCCAA and
All-Western Division honors. He averaged a team-high
15.4 points per game and was also among team leaders
with 190 rebounds (7.0 average), 35 three-point
field goals, and a .708 free throw percentage.
Sophomore guard Deandre Bynum (Memphis, TN/White
Station High School) and freshman forward Cortez
Wilder (Ripley, TN/Ripley High School) were named to
the All-Western Division Team. Bynum averaged 9.6
points, 3.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game.
Wilder averaged 12.3 points and led the Saluqis with
a .542 field goal percentage, 7.8 rebounds and 1.8
blocked shots per game.

For the Lady Saluqis,
sophomore forward Kiana James (Jackson, MS/Callaway
High School) was named All-TCCAA and All-Western
Division after leading the team with 17.4 points and
10.0 rebounds per game. Freshmen guards Shantel
Crout (Cordova, TN/Cordova High School) and Krystal
Riley (West Memphis, AR/West Memphis High School)
were chosen to the All-Western Division Team. Crout
averaged 8.0 points per game and led the team with
68 steals. Riley ranked second on the team with 9.6
points and 2.9 assists per game and led the Lady
Saluqis with 58 three-point field goals.

Baseball Team Splits Conference Twin-Bill With Roane
State
The Southwest baseball team defeated Roane State 8-5
before losing 8-4 in a conference doubleheader on
March 13 at First Tennessee Fields.
In
the game one win, the Saluqis scored six runs in the
first two innings to take a 6-3 lead, and held on
behind the pitching of Daniel Billingsley and Brett
Turner. Billingsley earned his first collegiate win
after allowing no hits and no runs in three innings
of relief while Turner got the save after pitching a
scoreless seventh inning. Top hitters on the day for
Southwest were Bradley White (pictured at
right) (4 hits, double, 2 RBI), Blake Dixon (3 hits,
double, home run, 2 RBI) and Tyler Woodard (3 hits,
2 doubles, 1 RBI in game two).
This week, the Saluqis will play Lambuth
University's JV team at 4 p.m. on March 15 at First
Tennessee Fields and will travel to Gallatin, TN,
for a three-game conference series against Volunteer
State on March 19-20.
Southwest
Softball Team Splits With Three Rivers
The
Southwest softball team split a doubleheader with
Three Rivers Community College on March 9 in Poplar
Bluff, MO. After losing game one 3-0, the Lady
Saluqis came back to win the second game 3-2 to
improve their record to 6-8.
Chrissy Darnell pitched both games and struck out a
total of 19 batters, including 11 in the second game
victory. Katy Ahrens had three hits on the day,
including her third home run of the season. Lauren
Alexander, Lauren Dreher and Rachel Martin
(pictured at left) added two hits each.
The Southwest softball team will play Union
University's JV team at 4 p.m. on March 16 in
Jackson, TN. The Lady Saluqis will then return home
to the Buckhead Creek Recreation Complex to take on
Northeast Mississippi at 2 p.m. on March 17 before
opening conference play this weekend, also at
Buckhead Creek, against Chattanooga State (3 p.m. on
March 19) and Motlow State (1 p.m. on March 20).
