STUDENT-ATHLETES HONORED BY TJCCAA
Five Southwest student-athletes were recently
honored by the Tennessee Junior and Community College
Athletic Association for their outstanding work in the
classroom during the 2006-2007 academic year.
Receiving the TJCCAA’s Academic Achievement Award were
sophomore baseball player Zac LaBarreare, freshmen
baseball players Daniel Hill and Brandon Goodman,
sophomore basketball player Michelle Malone, and
freshman softball player Staci Craig.
LaBarreare, a resident of Eads who came to Southwest
from Fayette Academy in Somerville, Tennessee, is a
two-time recipient of the Academic Achievement award. An
Allied Health Science major, LaBarreare earned a 3.018
grade point average in his two years at Southwest. LaBarreare is continuing his education at the University
of Memphis, where he is majoring in Athletic Training.
Hill, a graduate of Houston High School in Germantown,
compiled a 3.60 grade point average his freshman year.
Goodman, who came to Southwest from Bolivar Central High
School in Bolivar, Tennessee, earned a 3.469 grade point
average as a freshman.
Malone, a graduate of Millington Central High School,
also received the Academic Achievement award for the
second straight year. Malone earned a 3.26 grade point
average during her two years at Southwest while majoring
in Health and Physical Education. Malone will continue
her education and basketball career at Christian
Brothers University in Memphis.
Craig, pitcher on the Lady Saluqis’ softball team, came
to Southwest from Brighton High School in Brighton,
Tennessee. Craig compiled a 3.903 grade point average
her freshman year, which was the highest of any
student-athlete at Southwest.
