SALUQIS BASEBALL TEAM
DROPS TWO GAMES
IN NOSTALGIA MAN CLASSIC
For the second year, the Southwest
baseball team participated in the Nostalgia Man Classic at AutoZone Park,
hosted by the Memphis Red Birds. The Saluqis were defeated by Rhodes
7-6 on Saturday and Christian Brothers 6-5 on Sunday.
In Sunday's game against CBU, the Saluqis scored four runs in the top of
the seventh inning to tie game at 5-5. Jon Scruggs was hit by the
pitch to lead off the inning, then Jeremy Finney reached on an error.
Scruggs scored on a double by leadoff hitter Brett Jenne, then Finney
scored the second run of the inning on a passed ball. Brit Vincent
reached on a walk, then he and Jenne scored on a two-run single by cleanup
hitter Brendan Murphy, his third hit of the game. Also with base
hits for the Saluqis were Chris Rogers (double, RBI) and Collins Coltharp
(single).
The Saluqis return to action this Friday, October 15 against Holmes in a 1
p.m. game at the University of Memphis' Nat Buring Stadium. On
Saturday, October 16 Southwest travels to the University of North Alabama
in Florence, AL and will play two games - Itawamba at 2:30 p.m., followed
by Bevill State-Sumiton at 5 p.m. |
