SALUQIS BASEBALL TEAM LOSES SEASON OPENER TO BEVILL STATE
The Southwest baseball team opened its season Friday afternoon, losing both
games of a doubleheader to Bevill State-Fayette (AL) by scores of 8-3 and
4-2. Shortstop
Dustin Shields had an outstanding day for the Saluqis with four hits,
including a double in the first game. In game two, starter Charlie Ligon
pitched well despite the loss, striking out 10 and allowing only four hits
and one earned run in six innings.
The Saluqis will play two games today in the Nostalgia Man Classic at
AutoZone Park, hosted by the Memphis Red Birds. Southwest will take on
LeMoyne-Owen College at 10 a.m., and then will play Crichton College at 4
p.m. This weekend, February 20-21, Southwest will open conference play
against Hiwassee College in Madisonville, Tennessee. The two teams will play
a single game Friday at 2 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m., doubleheader Saturday. |
