BASEBALL TEAM SPLITS
WITH HIWASSEE TO OPEN
CONFERENCE PLAY
The Southwest baseball team scored 12 runs in the first inning of game
one en route to a 14-0 win over Hiwassee College on Sunday afternoon
at Tony Gagliano Field in the conference opener for both teams. Nick
Smith led the Saluqis with three hits and three runs batted in, while
pitcher Scott Nobles went all five innings to earn his first win of
the season. In the second game, Hiwassee defeated the Saluqis 7-1,
taking advantage of six Southwest errors.
The Saluqis' record now stands at 6-4 overall and 1-1 in the TJCCAA.
Their next game will be a 1 p.m. doubleheader Tuesday at Northeast
Mississippi Community College in Booneville, Mississippi. The Saluqis
then travel to Jackson, Tennessee, on the weekend to play Jackson
State in a three-game conference series. Game times are 2 p.m. Friday
(single game), followed by a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
