SOUTHWEST BASEBALL TEAM SWEEPS ROANE STATE

The Southwest baseball extended its winning streak to six games with a sweep of Roane State in a three-game conference series at Gagliano Field. On Friday afternoon, Collins Coltharp led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a solo home run to give Southwest a 7-6 win.

In Saturday's first game, the Saluqis defeated Roane State 2-1 as Preston Burleson singled in Brad Tillman with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh after Tillman's one out triple. Jamie Carrico (2-3) struck out 10 and allowed four hits in a complete game win. In the second game of the doubleheader, Nick Smith went 3 for 3 with two doubles, a home run (his 5th), and four runs batted in to lead Southwest to a 10-6 victory. Michael Steele (3-0) earned the win, allowing two hits and no runs in four innings of relief.

Last Tuesday, Southwest swept Three Rivers in a doubleheader, winning 7-3 and 5-2. Josh Meeker went 5 for 6 on the day and was the winning pitcher in game one. Drew Buford earned saves in both games, giving him four on the season and ten for his career – a new Southwest record.

The wins improve the Saluqis' record to 14-8 overall and 8-4 in the Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association. Southwest hosts Coahoma on Tuesday, March 16 in a 3:00 p.m. game at Gagliano Field.
