SALUQIS BASEBALL TEAM
WINS FOUR OF FIVE
The Southwest baseball team improved its record to
18-10 over the weekend, winning two of three games at Roane State
Community College in a conference series, then sweeping Shawnee (IL)
Community College in a doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Gagliano
Field.
In the first game at Roane State on Friday, Nick
Smith's solo home run highlighted a 10-run third
inning as the Saluqis won 16-3. On Saturday, the
Saluqis dropped the first game 5-4, then came back
to win the second game 9-2.
On Sunday, Southwest returned home to face Shawnee in a non-conference
doubleheader. In game one, Patrick Williams went 4 for 4 to lead the
Saluqis to a 12-4 win. In the second game, Nick Smith's sacrifice fly
scored Tim Turner with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh as
the Saluqis won 5-4 to complete the sweep.
The Saluqis play non-conference games at home this
week against Northeast Mississippi (doubleheader
Tuesday at 3 p.m.) and Bevill State-Sumiton (AL)
(doubleheader Thursday at 1 p.m.) Both twin bills
will be played at Tony Gagliano Memorial Field on Mt. Moriah. |
