SOUTHWEST BASEBALL TEAM WINS ONE OF THREE AGAINST
COLUMBIA
The Saluqis’ baseball team won one of three games
against Columbia State in the TJCCAA series over the
weekend at Gagliano Field. Columbia State won Friday’s
single game 12-7 and also the first game of Saturday’s
doubleheader 6-0 before Southwest won the final game
7-2. The Saluqis’ record is now 10-23 overall and 5-12
in the TJCCAA.
Brent
Biggs (pictured at left) was the winning pitcher
in the series finale, scattering seven hits over seven
innings while striking out five. After falling behind
2-0 in the top of the first, Matt Nuccio’s three-run
double in the bottom of the first gave Southwest the
lead they never relinquished.
David Clayton (5 for 10) was the top hitter for the
Saluqis in the series, followed by Billy Ray Todd (4 for
12), Jordan Wakefield (4 for 8), and Clay Wright (4 for
9, tied Southwest record with three doubles in game
two).
