SALUQIS
SWEPT BY VOL STATE
The Southwest baseball team was swept in a three-game conference
series over the weekend by Volunteer State, the first-place team in
the Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association.
On Friday afternoon, the Saluqis jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first
inning as leadoff hitter Brandon Doss hit his first home run of the
season, followed by an RBI single by Reggie Huguet and a two-run
double by Jacob Barker. However, Vol State came back to defeat
Southwest 16-5, taking advantage of seven Saluqis errors.
In game one on Saturday, Vol State took an early 4-0 lead, and held on
to defeat Southwest 8-5. Jacob Barker continued his hot hitting for
the Saluqis, going 3 for 4 with a triple. In the second game, the
Saluqis were defeated 5-2, dropping their record to 21-16 overall and
6-8 in the TJCCAA. Vol State improved to 27-5 overall and 14-1 in the
conference.
Next up for Southwest is a three-game conference series against
Walters State this weekend in Morristown, Tennessee. Game times will
be 2 p.m. (EDT) (single game) Friday, with a noon (EDT) doubleheader
Saturday. |
