SALUQIS BASEBALL TEAM TAKES TWO FROM MOTLOW
The Southwest baseball won two out of three games over the weekend against
Motlow State, splitting a doubleheader on Saturday (winning 4-1 and losing
4-3) and winning a single game 4-1 on Sunday. The wins improve the Saluqis
record to 9-8 overall and 5-4 in the Tennessee Junior and Community College
Athletic Association.
In the first game on Friday, Collins Coltharp hit a double to drive in
Preston Burleson with the game-tying run in the top of the seventh, then
Chris Rogers scored the go-ahead run on a fielder's choice by Josh Meeker.
Rogers went 3 for 4 in the game with a double and two runs scored. Drew
Buford pitched two scoreless innings in relief to pick up the win. Other
top hitters for the Saluqis were Chris Hebert, who went 2 for 3 with a home
run and 2 RBI, and Nick Smith, who went 2 for 3 with a double and 2 RBI.
In Sunday's win, Daniel Adams pitched an outstanding game, allowing only 3
hits, 1 unearned run, and striking out 13 batters in 8 innings. Drew Buford
pitched a scoreless ninth inning to pick up his second save of the season
and eighth of his career - tying the school career record. The hitting star
for Southwest was Chris Rogers, who went 3 for 4 with a home run, his first
of the season. Also hitting home runs for Southwest were Nick Smith, who
hit his third of the season, and David Neal, who hit his first.
The Saluqis return to action on Tuesday, March 9 against Three Rivers
Community College in a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader at Tony Gagliano Memorial
Field. This weekend, March 12-13, Southwest will host Roane State in a
three-game conference series. The two teams will play a single game on
Friday at 2:30 p.m., followed by a noon doubleheader on Saturday. |
