SALUQIS BASEBALL TEAM WINS ONE AT CHATTANOOGA
The Southwest baseball team went 1-2 over the weekend at Chattanooga State,
losing the opener on Friday and splitting Saturday's doubleheader. After
dropping Friday's game 9-4, the Saluqis came back to take game one on
Saturday 18-2 before losing 10-4 in the series finale. The Saluqis' record
now stands at 24-15 overall and 12-9 in the Tennessee Junior and Community
College Athletic Association.
In Saturday's victory, the Saluqis pounded out 23 hits, most of which came
in a seven-run second inning and a 10-run sixth. Nick Smith had a huge game,
going 5 for 5 with a double and three runs batted in, while Chris Rogers
went 4 for 4 with 4 RBI. Also with multiple hits for Southwest were Dustin
Shields (3 hits, RBI), David Neal (2 hits, double, RBI), Ryan Orr (2 hits,
triple, 3 RBI), Kyle Watkins (2 hits, RBI), and winning pitcher Josh Meeker
(3 hits, RBI), who improved his record to a perfect 7-0 on the season.
