SALUQIS SWEEP CHATTANOOGA STATE
The Southwest baseball team swept Chattanooga State in a three-game series
over the weekend at Tony Gagliano Memorial Field in Memphis. The wins
improved the Saluqis' record to 25-18 overall and 10-10 in the
Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association.
In the first game of the series on Friday afternoon, centerfielder Patrick
Williams went 3 for 3, and designated hitter Nick Smith drove in three runs
to lead Southwest to a 5-2 victory. Michael Steele was the winning pitcher,
striking out six batters and allowing only one earned run in 6-2/3 innings.
Shane Jackson struck out four while pitching the final 1-1/3 innings,
earning his second save of the season.
On Saturday, the Saluqis won the first game by an 8-3 margin. Third baseman
Chris Brock went 3 for 4, and Wes Daniels drove in three runs to lead
Southwest. The winning pitcher was Jamie Carrico, and Drew Buford
picked up the save.
In game two, Nick Smith slammed two home runs, and Chris Brock hit his first
career homer to lead Southwest to a 9-3 win. Charlie Ligon was the winning
pitcher, striking out six in five innings of work.
The Saluqis will travel to Cleveland, Tennessee, this weekend for a
three-game series with Cleveland State Community College. Game times will be
3 p.m. on Friday, followed by a noon doubleheader on Saturday. All
times are eastern.
