SALUQIS SWEEP CLEVELAND STATE

The Southwest baseball team defeated Cleveland State Community College in all three games last weekend at Gagliano Field, improving their record to 28-16 overall and 15-9 in the Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association. In the series opener on Friday, Chris Rogers led off the bottom of the 11th inning with a triple, and then scored the game-winning run on a two-out single by Brad Tillman. Drew Buford pitched 3-2/3 shutout innings in relief to earn the win.

In the first game of Saturday afternoon’s doubleheader, Wes Melton’s pinch-hit two-run single in the bottom of the sixth drove in Nick Smith and Chris Rogers with the go-ahead runs as the Saluqis defeated Cleveland State 5-3. Winning pitcher Josh Meeker improved his record to a perfect 8-0 on the season.In game two, the Saluqis completed the sweep, winning 11-10. Wes Melton collected four hits in the game and Preston Burleson’s three-run triple highlighted a six-run fourth inning. Drew Buford picked up saves in both games, giving him eight on the season, a new single season Southwest record.
