SALUQIS WIN ONE OF THREE
AT CLEVELAND, SWEEP SHAWNEE
The Southwest baseball team won one out of three games in a weekend
conference series over the weekend at Cleveland State Community
College, then swept a doubleheader at Shawnee (IL) on Tuesday
afternoon. The Saluqis’ record now stands at 28-20 overall and
11-12 in the Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic
Association.
On Friday afternoon, the Saluqis lost to Cleveland State 9-8 in a
slugfest as Southwest outhit Cleveland State 18-16. Reggie Huguet went
3 for 5 with two home runs and four runs batted in for the Saluqis.
Southwest won the first game on Saturday 6-5 as pitcher Jamie Carrico
won his fifth game of the season. Carrico struck out eight batters in
six innings before Scott Nobles relieved him in the seventh to pick up
the save.
In Saturday's second game, the Saluqis managed only five hits in a 7-3
loss. For the series, Saluqis' first baseman Jacob Barker went 7 for
10 for a .700 batting average. Also with an outstanding weekend was
outfielder Dusty Harris, who was 5 for 6 with a home run and three
RBI.
In Tuesday's sweep of Shawnee, Reggie Huguet homered in both games to
give him six on the season, while Nick Smith hit his ninth round-
tripper of the year in the first game. Also in the first game,
Casey Cunningham went 3 for 4 with two doubles and drove in three runs
to lead the Saluqis to the win.
This weekend, the Saluqis host Columbia State in a three-game TJCCAA
series at Tony Gagliano Memorial Field. Game times for the Columbia
State series are 4 p.m. single game on Friday, followed by a noon
doubleheader on Saturday. |
