NORTH MISSISSIPPI STANDOUT INKS WITH SOUTHWEST

Collins Coltharp, a 6-1, 180-pound catcher at W.P. Daniel High School in New Albany, Mississippi, recently signed a letter of intent with Southwest Tennessee Community College in Memphis.  As a junior, he earned All-State honorable mention, Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal All-Area, and First Team All-Division 1-3A, and received the Gatorade Will to Win Athlete Award.  Coached by Curt Fowler, Coltharp batted .468 his junior year with eight home runs, 22 doubles, and 48 runs batted in.  His 22 doubles was second most in the state of Mississippi for the 2002 season.  Coltharp was the offensive Most Valuable Player and leading hitter for New Albany’s Class 3-A North Half Runnerup team in 2002.  He is currently hitting .375 with four home runs and 35 RBI.  He has also been selected as team captain for both the 2002 and 2003 seasons.  Coltharp also lettered in football, and was named All-Division 1-3A as a punter his senior year.  “We’re pleased to have a commitment from a player with Collins’ talents,”  said Saluqis’ coach Doug Darnall.  “Not only is he a quality baseball player, but more importantly he is a tremendous person.  He will fit into our program nicely.”  He is the son of Thomas and Kelly Coltharp of New Albany, Mississippi.
