SOUTHWEST BASEBALL TEAM WINS ONE OF THREE AT DYERSBURG
The
Southwest baseball team won one of three games at Dyersburg State over the
weekend in the last TJCCAA series of the season. The Saluqis’ record now
stands at 32-21 overall including a final record of 16-13 in the conference.
In game one of Friday’s doubleheader, Southwest scored three runs in the top
of the ninth inning to defeat Dyersburg State 10-9. Josh Maurizi, who went 3
for 4 in the game, drove in Cory Rudolph with the game-tying run then Matt
Akin scored on an error to give the Saluqis the lead. Chris Denny picked up
the win in relief and Jeffrey Matlock pitched a scoreless ninth earn the
save.
Southwest lost the second game 8-3 despite two home runs from Elvis Sosa
(pictured at right). Sosa, who also hit a round tripper in game one, now
has 13 home runs on the season – a new Southwest single season record. The
Saluqis also lost the third game of the series on Saturday afternoon 11-2 as
the Saluqis had only three hits in the game.
