SOUTHWEST MEETS HIWASSEE IN REGION PLAY-IN GAME
The Southwest baseball team begins post-season
tournament action on Friday, May 4 at 1 p.m. as the
Saluqis battle Hiwassee College in a play-in game for
the TJCCAA/NJCAA Region VII Tournament at Dave Hall
Field in Columbia, Tennessee. The winner will play
number three seed Dyersburg State at 10 a.m. on
Saturday.
 The
Saluqis enter the tournament as the number eleven seed
with a 16-39 overall record while seventh seed Hiwassee
was 24-26 during the regular season. Southwest swept
Hiwassee in a three-game conference series April 5-6 at
Tony Gagliano Memorial Field, winning 5-2, 6-1, and
12-11.
Leading hitters for the Saluqis are freshman first
baseman Brandon Goodman (.373, 14 RBI), freshman
leftfielder Billy Ray Todd (.332, 22 RBI), sophomore
shortstop Philip Gibson (.306, 20 RBI), sophomore third
baseman Clay Wright (pictured at left) (.302, 5
HR, 28 RBI), freshman centerfielder Daniel Hill (.289, 8
HR, 36 RBI), and freshman catcher Jordan Wakefield
(.286, 17 RBI).
