SOUTHWEST BASEBALL TEAM DEFEATS DYERSBURG STATE

The Southwest baseball team defeated Dyersburg State 10-4 last Friday night at Tony Gagliano Memorial Field in the final conference game of the season. With the win, the Saluqis improved their record to 33-19 overall and 17-11 in the Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association. The second and third games of the series, scheduled to be played Saturday, were postponed due to rain. The two teams will play a doubleheader Wednesday beginning at 4 p.m. at Gagliano Field.

Daniel Adams struck out 13 batters to increase his season total to 82 and become only the third pitcher in school history to strike out 80 batters in a season. Adams, who improved his record to 4-2 on the season, allowed only six hits and walked just one batter in eight innings.

The top hitter for the Saluqis was Mark Schildmeier, who had three hits, including a two-run double that highlighted a five-run fifth inning. Also with multiple hits for Southwest were Dustin Shields (2 for 3, double, 4 runs scored), Nick Smith (2 for 4, double, 3 RBI), Josh Meeker (2 for 4, 2 RBI), and Wes Melton (2 for 5).
