SOUTHWEST BASEBALL TEAM REACHES THIRD ROUND OF REGION
TOURNAMENT
The Southwest baseball team ended its season with an
18-41 overall record, finishing fifth in the TJCCAA/NJCAA
Region VII Tournament. After defeating Hiwassee 6-4 in a
play-in game, the Saluqis upset defending national
champion Walters State (12-11) in a first round game
before losing to Dyersburg State (9-5) and Volunteer
State (17-2).
Sophomore third baseman Clay Wright hit a solo home run
in the play-in game win over Hiwassee then went 3 for 3
against Walters State with a double, two home runs and
seven runs batted in. Other hitting stars for the
Saluqis were freshman designated hitter Matt Nuccio
(home runs against Walters State and Dyersburg State)
and Brandon Goodman (three hits vs. Dyersburg State),
David Clayton (two hits vs. Hiwassee and Walters State),
Daniel Hill (two hits vs. Hiwassee and Walters State),
and Billy Ray Todd (two hits vs. Walters State and
Dyersburg State).
