SOUTHWEST BASEBALL TEAM LOSES PLAY-IN GAME
The Southwest baseball team’s season came to an end last Friday as the
Saluqis lost a Region VII Tournament Play-In Game to Dyersburg State 7-6
at Dave Hall Field in Columbia, Tennessee. Southwest finished the season
with a 29-27 overall record.
After trailing the entire game, Southwest tied the game at 5-5 in the
bottom of the eighth inning. Clay Wright led off the inning with a
double, then he and Phillip White (who reached base on a hit by pitch)
scored on a two-run single by Jonathan Thurston to tie the game. After
surrendering two runs in the top of the ninth to make the score 7-5
Dyersburg State, the Saluqis scored one run in their last at-bat when
Wright drove in Chris Rogers, who doubled to lead off the bottom of the
ninth. Top hitters in the game for Southwest were Rogers (double, triple,
two runs), Wright (single, double, RBI), and Thurston (single, double, 2
RBI).
