BURLESON SIGNS WITH SOUTHWEST BASEBALL TEAM
Southwest head baseball coach Johnny Ray has announced the signing of
Griffin Burleson, a pitcher-third baseman from Germantown High School.
“Griffin will bring a lot of
ability to our pitching staff,” said Ray. “We expect him to come to our
program and pitch some big innings for us right away.”
As a senior, Burleson was an All-District 15AAA and All-Region 8AAA
performer, and was also named to The Commercial Appeal’s Best of the Preps
Team. He batted .366 with a team-high five home runs this spring and
posted a 3-3 pitching record. In 2004, Burleson led the Red Devils to a
28-14 record and runner-up in both the district and region tournaments.
He was named Most Valuable Player of the prestigious USA Classic, leading
the Red Devils to the tournament championship for the third straight
season. In the summer of 2003, Burleson was named to the Tennessee
Baseball Coaches Association Showcase Team. Griffin joins his brother,
Preston, in the Saluqis’ baseball program.
