SOUTHWEST BASEBALL TEAM
HOSTS FALL SHOWCASE
This weekend at Gagliano and Sowell
Fields, the Saluqis’ baseball team will host the 2005 Southwest Fall
Showcase. Nineteen community colleges from five different states will
participate in the event, which begins on Friday, September 30 and runs
through Sunday, October 2.
Southwest will play at total of seven games in the Showcase. On Friday at
Gagliano Field, the Saluqis will take on Northwest-Shoals (AL) at 3 p.m. and
Bevill State-Sumiton (AL) at 8 p.m. Southwest will split its squad on
Saturday night, playing at 8 p.m. on each field. The Saluqis will play
Wabash (IL) at Gagliano Field and at the same time John Wood (IL) at Sowell
Field. On Sunday, Southwest plays three games (all at Gagliano Field) – vs.
Three Rivers (MO) (12:30 p.m.), Northwest Mississippi (5:30 p.m.), and
Calhoun (AL) (8:00 p.m.).
Other schools in the Showcase are: Bevill State-Fayette (AL), Dyersburg
State, Holmes (MS), Itawamba (MS), Jefferson (MO), John A. Logan, Kaskaskia
(IL), Mississippi Delta, Olney Central (IL), St. Louis-Meramec (MO), and
Southeastern Illinois.
Next weekend, Saturday-Sunday, October 8-9, the Saluqis will participate in
the Third Annual Nostalgia Man Classic at AutoZone Park, hosted by the
Memphis Redbirds. Southwest will play Rhodes College at 4 p.m. on Saturday
and Christian Brothers University at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Tickets for the
event may be purchased for $15.00 (for both days). Each ticket sold by
Southwest will generate $7.50 toward the Saluqis’ baseball program. For
