SOUTHWEST BASEBALL TEAM DEFEATS VOL STATE
The Southwest baseball team participated in the Worth Junior College
Showcase
in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on Saturday, September 25, defeating Volunteer
State
(6-3) and tying Walters State (6-6).
Against Vol State, winning pitcher Taylor Bennett pitched three shutout
innings,
striking out four batters. Collins Coltharp hit a three-run homer in
the second inning
that gave Southwest a 3-0 lead. Other top hitters for the Saluqis
were Brendan
Murphy (2 hits), Wes Melton (double), and Chris Rogers (double, RBI
sacrifice fly.)
In the Walters State game, the Saluqis fought back from a three-run
deficit in the
bottom of the seventh to tie the game at 6-all on Dustin Turner's RBI
single. Top
hitters for Southwest were Brett Jenne (triple, RBI) and Clay Wright
(double).
Starting pitcher Jason Adams pitched three innings, allowing no runs. |
