The Southwest
Tennessee Community College baseball team won two of three games against
Dyersburg State over the weekend to improve its record to 18-12 overall
and 2-3 in the conference. The Saluqis dropped a 4-3 decision in the
series opener on Friday, then won the nightcap 9-4, breaking a four-game
losing streak. The third game of the series, originally scheduled for
Saturday, was played Sunday night with Southwest coming from behind to
win 8-7.In Friday night's win, Dusty Harris
hit his fifth home run of the season to highlight a six-run fourth
inning, while other top hitters for the Saluqis were Patrick Williams
(double, triple, 2 runs batted in), Corey Kines (2 singles, 3 runs
batted in), and Hank Pitts (single, double, 2 runs scored). Pitcher Chad
Gean earned his fourth win of the season, striking out five batters in
six innings of work.
On Sunday, the Saluqis fell behind 7-0 before
scoring seven runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, then winning the
game in the bottom of the ninth when Patrick Williams scored on a
bases-loaded walk to Jacob Barker. Barker's two-run homer got the
Saluqis on the board in the seventh, then Kayo Anderson's two-run single
tied the game at 7-all later in the inning. Drew Parr pitched 1-2/3
innings in relief to pick up the win, his fourth of the year.
STCC hosts Jackson State Community College in a
TJCCAA doubleheader at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at Tony Gagliano Memorial
Field. The Saluqis will then travel to Gallatin, Tennessee this weekend
to take on Volunteer State (doubleheader at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, single
game at 1:00 p.m. Saturday).
