PLAY COLUMBIA IN WEEKEND SERIES |
| The Southwest
Tennessee Community College baseball team will take on Columbia State
Community College this weekend in a three-game series at Tony Gagliano
Memorial Field. The Saluqis currently have a 22-14 overall record and
are 6-4 in the West Division of the Tennessee Junior/Community College
Athletic Association, while Columbia State is 24-13 overall and 8-1 in
the conference. Southwest enters this weekend 2-1/2 games behind
Columbia, and with a series sweep will take over first place in the
TJCCAA West. The Saluqis are led by
sophomore pitcher-first baseman Corey Kines, who leads the team with a
.385 batting average and a 2.54 earned run average. Also expected to
start on the mound this weekend are sophomores Drew Parr and Chad Gean,
who are tied for the team lead with five wins each. Several freshmen are
contributing to this year's team, including leftfielder Wes Daniels
(.299, 2 home runs, 19 runs batted in), centerfielder Patrick Williams
(.281 average, team-high 20 stolen bases), rightfielder Dusty Harris
(.321, 6 home runs, 21 rbi), third baseman Brett Beckwith (.306, 17
stolen bases), catcher Jacob Barker (.283, 6 home runs, 29 rbi), and
shortstop Chris Brock (.314, 12 rbi). Three sophomores are also among
the Saluqis' top players - designated hitter Walker Uhlhorn (.312, 2
home runs, 16 rbi), second baseman Hank Pitts (.328, 8 rbi), and
pitcher-first baseman David McQuilliams (3-2 record, 4.02 era). |
