The
Southwest Tennessee Community College baseball team defeated Columbia
State Community College 10-9 in eleven innings on Saturday afternoon
after losing the first two games of the series to the Chargers on
Friday. The win improved the Saluqis' record to 23-16 overall and 7-6
(second place) in the TJCCAA West Division.
Southwest fell behind 8-2 in the
third inning on Saturday, then came back to tie the game in the bottom
of the ninth on a two-run single by Walker Uhlhorn. After a scoreless
tenth inning, Wes Daniels led off the bottom of the eleventh with a
single and advanced to third on a throwing error. Brett Beckwith then
singled to right, driving in Daniels with the deciding run. Freshmen
pitchers Steven Miller and Scott Nobles both did an excellent job out of
the bullpen, allowing only one run over the final eight innings. In his
best outing of the season, Miller allowed just two hits and no runs from
the fourth through the eighth inning. Nobles pitched the final four
frames, allowing only one hit to earn his second victory of the year.
The Saluqis return to action
