The Southwest
Tennessee Community College baseball team swept Dyersburg State by
scores of 7-4 and 16-1 on Tuesday afternoon in Dyersburg. With the two
wins, the Saluqis improved their record to 25-16 overall and 9-6 in the
conference and clinched a berth in the TJCCAA/Region 7 Tournament at
Columbia State May 3-7.Southwest scored
four runs in the top of the seventh inning to win the first game as
Joseph Fortner's two-run single gave the Saluqis the lead. Scott Nobles
picked up the win in relief, allowing one hit and no runs in two innings
of work.
Patrick Williams led the Saluqis in game two with
four hits and five runs scored, while middle infielders Chris Brock and
Marshall Mullins added three hits each. Chad Gean earned his
team-leading sixth win of the season, giving up four hits and one run in
five innings.
The Saluqis return to action today (Wednesday,
April 17) with a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader against Lambuth University's
junior varsity team at Tony Gagliano Memorial Field. Southwest will play
Jackson State this weekend in a three-game series in Jackson. The two
teams will play a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader on Friday and 1:00 single game
on Saturday.
