SALUQIS LOSE TWO GAMES TO VOL STATE |
| The Southwest
Tennessee Community College baseball team lost both games of
doubleheader (6-2, 4-2) on Tuesday to Volunteer State Community College,
dropping the Saluqis to third place in the TJCCAA West Division.
Southwest jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game one when
leadoff batter Patrick Williams singled, stole second, then scored on a
base hit by Walker Uhlhorn. The Saluqis added another run in the second
inning after Dusty Harris led off with a double, then later scored on a
ground ball by Marshall Mullins. Vol State came back to tie the game at
2-2 in the third, then scored two runs in the fourth to take the lead
for good. Despite the loss, Drew Parr pitched well for the Saluqis,
striking out seven and walking none in a seven-inning complete game. In
the nightcap, Southwest took a 2-0 lead on Joseph Fortner's two-run home
run in the fourth inning before Vol State came back to take a 3-2 in the
fifth, then added another run in the sixth for the final margin. Chad
Gean was the losing pitcher for the Saluqis, allowing five hits and two
earned runs in 4-2/3 innings. The final
regular season game for Southwest will be this Sunday, when the Saluqis
take on Northwest Mississippi Community College in a 4:00 p.m.
doubleheader at Tony Gagliano Memorial Field. The Saluqis enter the
games with a 28-20 overall record, and finished with a 10-10 record in
the TJCCAA West. Southwest will compete in the TJCCAA/Region 7
Tournament, May 3-7 at Columbia State Community College.
