SOUTHWEST SWEEPS SAINT CATHARINE
The Southwest men’s and women’s basketball teams returned to action on
Saturday night at the Verties Sails Gymnasium in their first games following
the holiday break, defeating Saint Catharine College in both games. Both
teams improved their record to 11-5 on the season.
Freshman forward Kenya Moore (Blytheville, AR) scored 22 points and grabbed
10 rebounds to lead the Lady Saluqis to a 88-69 victory. Moore also dished
out three assists and had five steals in one of her best all-around games of
the season. Other Southwest players scoring in double figures were sophomore
guard Lakeisha Jackson (Booker T. Washington High School) with 17, freshman
forward Mary Brown (East High School) with 13, and sophomore forward Ashley
Mason (Trezevant High School) with 11.
Southwest won the men’s game by a 105-88 margin as six players scored in
double figures, led by freshman guard Lester Hudson (Central High School)
with 21 points. Other top scorers for the Saluqi men were freshman guard
Anthony Pigram (Trezevant High School) with 13, freshman forward Moraye Ivy
(Central High School) with 13, freshman center Jeremy Marrs (Parkin, AR)
with 12, sophomore guard Nick Covington (Little Rock, AR) with 10, and
sophomore forward Rasuul Buluu (Booker T. Washington High School), who
scored 10 points playing in his first game with the team.
