SALUQIS CRUSH GENESIS ONE

Antonio Young (pictured at right) scored a career-high 25 points to lead seven players in double figures as the Southwest men’s basketball team defeated Genesis One Prep 123-61 last Friday night at the Verties Sails Gymnasium.

Young connected on seven three-point field goals in only 20 minutes of play. Other top scorers for the Saluqis were A.J. Nance (17), Rafael Riley (17), Dominique Johnson (13), Jeremy Rodgers (11), James Justice (10), and Markecio Beal (10).

In one of its top defensive games of the season, Southwest limited Genesis One to 38.7 percent shooting (including 29 percent in the first half) and forced a staggering 45 turnovers. The Saluqis had 30 steals as a team, led by Beal and Riley with six each. Johnson and Rodgers led the rebounders with nine boards apiece.

The Saluqis (12-2) and the 7th-ranked Lady Saluqis (12-0) return to action on Tuesday, January 15 against Arkansas Baptist College at the Verties Sails Gymnasium. The women’s game will tip-off at 6 p.m. followed by the men at 8. The Saluqis will also travel to Russellville, Arkansas on Wednesday night to take on Arkansas Tech’s junior varsity.
