SOUTHWEST BASKETBALL TEAMS
STAY HOT
WITH SWEEP OF SAINT CATHARINE
The Southwest men's and women's basketball teams continued their winning
ways over the weekend, sweeping Saint Catharine College on Saturday
afternoon in Saint Catharine, Kentucky.
In the women's game, Porshia Willis scored a career-high 23 points and
dished out nine assists to lead the Lady Saluqis to a thrilling 100-95
double-overtime victory. In the most exciting game of the season,
several other Southwest players had outstanding games as well, including
Imesia Jackson (19 points, 10 rebounds), Ashley Mason (17 points), and
Lakeisha Jackson (17 points). Jackson was also the only Lady Saluqi to
play the entire 50-minute game. The win improved the Lady Saluqis record
to 13-5 overall and 6-3 in the Tennessee Junior and Community College
Athletic Association.
The men's game was almost as exciting as the Saluqis defeated Saint
Catharine by a score of 85-83. The Saluqis overcame a nine-point
halftime deficit (51-42), outscoring Saint Catharine 43-32 in the second
stanza. Lester Hudson was the top scorer with 18 points and also led the
team with five assists. Other Saluqis in double figures were Jeremy
Marrs (15 points) and Rasuul Buluu (13 points). Marrs and Buluu tied for
the team lead in rebounding with eight boards each. The Saluqi men
improved their record to 13-5 overall and 7-2 in the TJCCAA.
Both teams return to action on Thursday, January 27 against Jackson
State Community College in Jackson, Tennessee. The women's game will
tip-off at 6 p.m., followed by men's action at 8 p.m. The Southwest
basketball teams will return home on Saturday, January 29, when the
Saluqis and Lady Saluqis take on Columbia State Community College at the
Verties Sails Gymnasium.
