SALUQIS RANKED 13TH IN NJCAA POLL

The Southwest men’s basketball team climbed five places to number 13 in this week’s National Junior College Athletic Association poll.  The Saluqis (15-3), moved up from number 18 after defeating Jackson State Community College 94-85 on Saturday afternoon in Jackson, Tennessee.  Southwest is currently at the top of the Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association (TJCCAA) standings with a 12-2 record.

The Saluqis are coached by Verties Sails Jr., (pictured at left) who has compiled a 576-228 record in 27 years at the College.  His team is led by three sophomores who made the All-Western Division team last season:   Lester Hudson (16.7 points, 5.3 rebounds), Anthony Pigram (15.0 points, 93 percent free throws) and Moraye Ivy (12.9 points, 6.2 rebounds).  Other top performers for the Saluqis this season have been freshmen Greg Grimes (10.3 points, 6.1 rebounds), Donald Boone (8.4 points, 4.6 rebounds), Chris Evans (7.2 points, 5.2 rebounds) and Nathan Walton (3.1 points, 4.0 assists).
