SOUTHWEST BASKETBALL TEAMS SWEEP SAINT CATHARINE AND COLUMBIA STATE,
SALUQI MEN NOW RANKED 12TH IN NJCAA

The Southwest men’s and women’s basketball teams continued their superb play with a sweep of both Saint Catharine and Columbia State in conference doubleheaders over the weekend at the Verties Sails Gymnasium. With the wins, the Lady Saluqis improved to 13-7 overall and 10-6 in the Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association, while the 12th-ranked Southwest men are now 17-3 overall and 14-2 in the TJCCAA. It was the fourth straight conference doubleheader sweep for Southwest.

On Friday night, Porshia Willis tied her career-high with 23 points and Imesia Jackson had 20 points and 12 rebounds as the Lady Saluqis defeated Saint Catharine 81-69. Priscilla Campbell also recorded a double-double with 17 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. On Saturday, Gina High scored a career-high 27 points and made 8 of 11 three-point field goals to lead the Southwest women to an 85-74 victory over Columbia State.

Moraye Ivy and Lester Hudson scored 17 points each in Southwest’s 73-66 win over Saint Catharine on Friday night. Chris Evans added 11 points and led the team in rebounding with six. In Saturday’s men’s game, Ivy and Hudson were again the leading scorers with 22 points each as the Saluqis defeated Columbia State 88-71.

Southwest returns to the court on Saturday, February 4 against Dyersburg State at the Verties Sails Gymnasium. The women’s game will tip-off at 2 p.m. followed by the men at 4 p.m.
