SOUTHWEST RELEASES BASKETBALL SCHEDULE
Southwest Athletic Director Verties Sails Jr. has released the
2004-2005
basketball schedule, which includes eleven home men's and women's
doubleheaders. The Saluqis and Lady Saluqis tip-off the season
with the
Alumni Game on Friday, October 29 at the Verties Sails Gymnasium.
Game times are 6 and 8 p.m.
Southwest opens the regular season on Monday, November 1 in
Clarksdale,
Mississippi, taking on Coahoma Community College. The women's game
will begin at 6 p.m., followed by the men at 8 p.m. The first home
games will be
Saturday, November 6, when the Lady Saluqis take on Carl Albert State
College at 5 p.m., followed by a men's game against Kennedy-King College
at
7:30 p.m.
On Friday, November 12, Southwest hosts Roane State Community College
in the first TJCCAA game of the season. On Saturday, November 13
the Saluqis and
Lady Saluqis will host Walters State. The Walters State men are the
defending TJCCAA/Region VII champions, while the women's team lost to Southwest
in the region semifinals a year ago.
Also featured on the men's schedule are non-conference games against
Southeastern Illinois, the nation's 6th-ranked team last year and a
national
tournament semifinalist, and a trip to Chicago, Illinois for the
Kennedy-King
Tournament on December 17-18. The Lady Saluqis will play in two
tournaments - the Georgia Perimeter Tournament on November 26-27, and the Lady
Saluqi
Classic, which Southwest will host on December 27-28 at the Verties Sails
Gym.
The 2004-2005 TJCCAA/Region VII Tournament will be held March 8-12 at
Roane State Community College in Harriman, Tennessee. The
tournament
champions will advance to the national tournaments March 22-26 in
Hutchinson,
Kansas (men) or Salina, Kansas (women).
