BASKETBALL TEAMS OPEN SEASON WITH EXHIBITION GAMES
The Southwest men’s and women’s basketball teams will open the
2005-2006 season on Saturday, October 22 with two exhibition games at the
newly renovated Verties Sails Gymnasium on the Union Avenue Campus. At 2
p.m., the Southwest men will take on the Spirit Express, followed by the
Lady Saluqis game against the State Liners at 4 p.m.
Both Southwest basketball teams will compete against the Saluqi Alumni on
Saturday, October 29 at the Verties Sails Gymnasium. The women’s game will
begin at 6 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 8 p.m. The games will feature
this year’s squads against teams composed of former Saluqis and Lady Saluqis.
Tickets for the Alumni Games are $5 for adults (including students) and $2
for children age 12 and under.
Prior to the Alumni games, Southwest is hosting an open house from 4 p.m. to
5:45 p.m. to celebrate the gym renovation. So far, the renovation has
included a brand-new NBA floor and new chair-back seats on the lower level
and new bleacher seats on the upper level. Also planned are a new weight
room, new concession stand and a media room. All Memphis area high school
and college athletic directors and basketball coaches are invited to attend
the open house, as well as Southwest Foundation Board Members and
contributors to the renovation project.
The Saluqis and Lady Saluqis open the 2005-2006 regular season on Tuesday,
November 1 when Southwest hosts Coahoma Community College at the Verties
Sails Gymnasium.
