SALUQIS OPEN SEASON WITH SWEEP OF COAHOMA
The Southwest men's and women's basketball teams opened the 2003-2004 season
on Saturday night with a sweep of Coahoma Community College at the Verties
Sails Gymnasium.
Lakeisha Jackson scored 19 points and Kaia Richardson added 16 to lead the
Lady Saluqis to a 86-56 win. Southwest overcame a cold shooting (28 percent)
first half by outscoring Coahoma 51-35 in the second period. Other players
who scored in double figures were Patrice Middleton with 11 and Katresha
Glass with 10. Julia Cole was the top rebounder with 11, while point guard
Lakus Bonner dished out 10 assists.
In the men's game, Jerry Dover Jr. scored 22 points to lead a very balanced
scoring attack as the Saluqis defeated Coahoma 112-73. All fourteen players
scored for the Saluqis, including an amazing 85 points from the
non-starters. Other top performers were Londrick Nolen with 14 points and 10
rebounds, Walter Ledoux with 13 points, and Randy Young with 11 points and a
game-high 15 rebounds.
