SOUTHWEST
WILL OPEN BASKETBALL CONFERENCE PLAY THIS WEEK
Continuing a stretch
of five straight road games that began last Tuesday, the Southwest
men's and women's basketball teams travel to East Tennessee this
weekend, November 14-15, to open conference play. Southwest will take
on Roane State Community College Friday night in Harriman, Tennessee.
Game times will be 5 p.m. for the women's game, followed by the men at
7 p.m. (central time). The Saluqis and Lady Saluqis will then play
Walters State Community College Saturday afternoon in Morristown,
Tennessee. Game times will be 1 p.m. (women) and 3 p.m. (central
time). Both doubleheaders will be broadcast locally on WUMR 91.7
FM.
The
Southwest men's team began last week with a 96-64 loss at Southeastern
Illinois College, then defeated Northwest Mississippi Community
College 94-80 Thursday before losing to Coahoma Community College
88-79 Saturday. In the win over Northwest Mississippi, several Saluqis
had outstanding games, led by freshman Randy Young with 17 points,
sophomore Chris Adams with 15 points, and freshman Anthony Holley with
13 points and 10 rebounds. The men's record now stands at 2-2 heading
into this weekend's games.
The Lady Saluqis lost
to the 12th-ranked Southeastern Illinois women by a score of 86-67,
and were scheduled to play Northwest Mississippi Thursday; however,
play was cancelled when it was discovered that no officials were
assigned to the game. The Southwest women came back Saturday night to
defeat Coahoma 70-63. That victory, led by freshman Katresha Glass
with a game-high 25 points, improved the Saluqis record to 2-1. |
