After defeating Northwest Mississippi Community
College last Tuesday, the Southwest men's basketball team won one of three
games in the K & T Steel Tournament in Twin Falls, Idaho over the
weekend. The lone win was a 81-72 decision last Thursday night over Arizona
Western College, the 15th-ranked team in the National Junior College
Athletic Association. The losses were to Northwest (Wyoming) College
(122-119 in triple-overtime) and to 19th-ranked College of Southern Idaho
(102-90.) Leading the Saluqis in scoring during the tournament was freshman
Tyrone Scott, who averaged 16.7 points for the three games and was named to
the all-tournament team.The Southwest men return to action Tuesday night, when
the Saluqis travel to Harrisburg, Illinois, to take on Southeastern Illinois
College, the nation's 7th-ranked team.
LADY SALUQIS DEFEAT ITAWAMBA
Last Thursday, freshman Candice Holliday scored scored
21 points to lead the Southwest women's basketball team to a 74-65 win over
Itawamba Community College, improving the Lady Saluqis' record to 3-0 on the
season. Also scoring in double figures for Southwest were sophomore guard
Larisha Graves (18 points) and freshman forward Julia Cole (14 points.)
SOUTHWEST HOSTS ROANE STATE AND WALTERS STATE THIS
WEEKEND
The next home game for both the Saluqis and Lady
Saluqis is Friday against Roane State Community College. The women's game
gets underway at 6:00 p.m., followed by the men at 8:00 p.m. On Saturday
afternoon, Southwest will take on Walters State Community College. Game
times for Saturday are 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
