SALUQIS SWEEP, LADY SALUQIS SPLIT IN CONFERENCE GAMES

The Southwest men’s basketball team improved to 4-0 on the season with wins over Roane State and Walters State over the weekend at the Verties Sails Gymnasium.  The Lady Saluqis dropped to 2-2 after defeating Roane State and losing to Walters State.

In the Lady Saluqis' win over Roane State, Imesia Jackson (pictured at left) scored 16 points and Gina High added 15 points and six assists to lead the Lady Saluqis past Roane State 82-71.  Other top scorers for the Southwest women were Michelle Malone and Brittany Smith with 14 points each.  Smith also led the team in rebounding with nine.

Lester Hudson scored 17 points and Greg Grimes added 14 points on 7 of 7 shooting to lead the Southwest men to a 96-61 win over Roane State.  Also scoring in double figures for the Saluqis were Anthony Pigram (12) and Thomas Jackson (10).  Southwest led 43-33 at the half before outscored Roane State 52-28 in the second half, limiting the Raiders to only 32 percent shooting.

On Saturday afternoon, the Southwest men defeated 16th-ranked Walters State 85-77, led by Moraye Ivy (pictured at right) with 19 points, six rebounds, and five assists.  Also in double figures for the Saluqis were Thomas Jackson (13), Lester Hudson (12), and Donald Boone (11).  Southwest shot 53 percent from the field for the game, including 59 percent in the second half.

Imesia Jackson scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough as the Lady Saluqis dropped a 68-65 decision to Walters State.  Porshia Willis was the only other Southwest player in double figures with 13 points.   

The Southwest basketball teams return to action this weekend on the road with games at Chattanooga State on Friday, November 18, and at Motlow State on Saturday, November 19. 

This season, all Southwest basketball games will be broadcast on the College’s website with John Maddox and Beau Phillips providing the exciting play-by-play and color commentary.
