SOUTHWEST ON THE ROAD AT CHATTANOOGA, MOTLOW
The Southwest men’s and women’s basketball teams will be
on the road this weekend with games at Chattanooga State
Technical Community College on Friday night and Motlow
State Community College (Tullahoma, TN) on Saturday
afternoon.
Coach Andrea Martre’s Lady Saluqis, undefeated at 3-0
this season, are led by University of Southern
Mississippi signee Candace Rucker, who ranks second in
the nation in scoring with a 24.3 average and also leads
the team in rebounds (9.7 average) and steals (5.0).
Other top contributors are sophomores Keona Brooks, who
is second on the team in scoring at 16.3 points per
game, and Starkitsha Luellen, who averages 9.7 points
and 8.7 rebounds per contest.
The men’s team, coached by Verties Sails Jr., is off to
a 4-1 start and coming off a 141-67 win over Arkansas
Tech’s junior varsity on Tuesday night. The Saluqis are
averaging 105.0 points per game which ranks first in the
conference and in the top five in the National Junior
College Athletic Association. Seven players average at
least eight points per game, led by sophomores Dominique
Johnson (17.2) and A.J. Nance (14.4) and freshman Paxton
Jackson (16.5). Other statistical leaders for the
Saluqis are sophomore Emmanuel Cheers with 5.8 assists,
freshman Jeremy Rodgers with 9.8 rebounds, and freshman
DeAngelo Riley with 3.0 blocked shots.
