SALUQIS DEFEAT TWO RANKED TEAMS
LAST WEEK
The Southwest men's basketball team won three games last week, including
two games over teams ranked in the National Junior College Athletic
Association pre-season poll. The wins improved the Saluqis' record to
5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Tennessee Junior and Community College
Athletic Association.
The Saluqis defeated 8th-ranked Northwest Mississippi 125-101 on Tuesday
night, Roane State 115-99 on Friday night in the conference opener, and
11th-ranked Walters State 82-81 on Saturday afternoon to improve their
record to 5-0 on the season.
In the win over Walters State, the Saluqis were led in scoring by
Anthony Pigram and Lester Hudson with 22 points each. Southwest
outrebounded Walters State 58-44 as Chris Prince led the team with 13
rebounds. Also rebounding in double figures were Hudson and Wallace
Cochran with 10 boards each.
The Southwest women won two of three games last week, defeating
Northwest Mississippi 83-75 and Roane State 92-48, and losing to
23rd-ranked Walters State 76-65.
Both the men's and women's teams will continue TJCCAA play this weekend
with games at Chattanooga State on Friday, November 19 and at Motlow
State on Saturday, November 20. The Motlow State games will be broadcast
locally on WUMR 91.7 FM. Southwest will return home on Monday, November
22 with men's and women's games against Coahoma at the Verties Sails
Gymnasium.
