SALUQIS BASKETBALL PLAYERS AMONG
TJCCAA LEADERS
Several Southwest men’s and women’s basketball players were ranked among
the statistical leaders this week in the Tennessee Junior and Community
College Athletic Association. The Saluqi men entered this week with a
5-0 overall record and are in first place in the TJCCAA Western Division
at 2-0. The Lady Saluqis are 4-1 overall and are in second place in the
West with a 1-1 record.
The Southwest men lead the TJCCAA in scoring offense at 105.6 points per
game and are third in scoring margin at 21.8. Three Saluqis rank among
the top ten in free throw percentage - Lester Hudson (fourth at 86.7),
Anthony Pigram (seventh at 83.3), and Chris Prince (tenth at 80.6).
Hudson (pictured at the right) also ranks fourth in rebounding (8.2),
fourth in steals (2.8), and ninth in assists (4.0). Deon Lawson is one
of the top rebounders (6.8 average for tenth) and shot blockers (1.6
average for sixth), while Wallace Cochran ranks seventh in blocked shots
at 1.5 per game. Nick Covington ranks fifth in both three-point field
goal percentage at 47.1(7 of 15) and in assists with an average of 4.8
per game.
The Lady Saluqis rank fourth in scoring offense (79.8 points per game)
and fifth in scoring margin (13.2). Ashley Mason, who leads the team in
scoring and rebounding, ranks second in the TJCCAA in scoring (16.8) and
third in rebounding (9.0). Point guard Porshia Willis (pictured at the
left) ranks among the leaders in several categories - second in assists
(5.0), fourth in steals (3.4), and fourth in three-point field goal
percentage (50.0). Two other Lady Saluqis who rank among the leaders are
Kenya Moore, eleventh in scoring at 13.0) and two-point field goal
percentage (third at 70.0), and Mary Brown, who ranks ninth in free
throw percentage (83.3). The Southwest women also have the conference’s
top two shot blockers in Adrienne Hoyle (2.4) and Imesia Jackson (2.0).
