SALUQIS SWEEP COAHOMA IN REGULAR SEASON OPENER

The Southwest basketball teams swept Coahoma Community College in the regular season opener for both schools on Monday night at The Pinnacle in Clarksdale, Mississippi.

Ashley Mason scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the Lady Saluqis to a 72-59 win over Coahoma. Also scoring in double figures for Southwest were Lakeisha Jackson with 13 points and Imesia Jackson, who had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in only 18 minutes of play. Scoring nine points were Shayna Troupe and Kenya Moore.

In the men's game, Chris Prince scored 19 points and Lester Hudson scored 15 points and had 13 rebounds to lead the Saluqis to a 92-68 victory over Coahoma. Also scoring in double figures was Moraye Ivy 10 points, while Nick Covington added nine points and three assists.

The first home games for Southwest will be on Saturday, November 6 at the Verties Sails Gymnasium when the Lady Saluqis will host Carl Albert State College at 5 p.m., followed by the men’s game against Kennedy-King College at 7:30 p.m.
