SOUTHWEST MEN DEFEAT MOTLOW STATE
The Southwest basketball teams won one of four games on the road over
the weekend with the men defeating Motlow State and losing to Chattanooga
State and the women losing both of its games.
After
a 112-107 loss at Chattanooga State on Friday night, the Southwest men came
back to defeat Motlow State 90-79 on Saturday afternoon in Lynchburg,
Tennessee. In the Chattanooga State game, Moraye Ivy scored 29 points and
Lester Hudson (pictured at right) added 27 to lead the Saluqi
scorers. Hudson also led the Saluqis against Motlow State with 21 points
(including 17 in the game’s first nine minutes.) Other players who scored in
double figures for Southwest in the Motlow State game were Greg Grimes (15
points, 8 rebounds), Ivy (14 points, 4 assists), and Anthony Pigram (12
points, 3 assists). The win improved the Saluqis' record to 5-1 overall and
3-1 in the Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association.
The
Lady Saluqis lost to Chattanooga State 65-60 despite outstanding games by
Imesia Jackson (16 points, 16 rebounds) and Tonya Walker (16 points, 9
rebounds). The Southwest women also lost to Motlow State 87-77, dropping
their record to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the TJCCAA. Scoring in double figures
for the Lady Saluqis against Motlow State were Jasmine Massey (18 points),
Brittany Smith (pictured at left) (16 points), and Jackson (16
points, 9 rebounds).
The next game for Southwest will be on November 30, when the Saluqis host
conference rival Jackson State at the Verties Sails Gymnasium.
