SALUQIS DEFEAT HIGHLAND, LOSE TO KENNEDY-KING

The nationally-ranked Southwest men’s basketball team traveled to Chicago over the weekend to compete in the KKC Tip-Off Classic and came home with a victory and a loss. On Friday night, freshman point guard James Justice  scored 16 points to lead the Saluqis to a 92-87 win over 12th-ranked Highland Community College. Also scoring in double figures for Southwest were sophomores Dominique Johnson (15), A.J. Nance (14), and Nick Stigger (12). The Saluqis lost to the host team Kennedy-King 74-73 on Saturday afternoon. Leading scorers for Southwest were Johnson with 21 and sophomore Leon Martin with 18.


LADY SALUQIS CRUSH WAYNE COUNTY IN SEASON OPENER

Sophomores Candace Rucker  and Keona Brooks combined for 47 points to lead the Southwest women’s basketball team to a 92-49 win over Wayne County Community College on Saturday afternoon at the Verties Sails Gymnasium. Rucker scored a game-high 25 points and led the Lady Saluqis with 11 rebounds while Brooks also recorded a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Also in double figures for Southwest was sophomore Daumonique Lenhardt with 14 points and a team-leading six steals.
