SOUTHWEST BASKETBALL TEAMS WIN HOME OPENERS,
SALUQI MEN SET RECORD FOR THREE-POINTERS


The Southwest men’s and women’s basketball teams both won games Saturday night at the Verties Sails Gymnasium, improving their records to 2-0 on the season.

Ashley Mason recorded her second double-double in as many games, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Saluqis to a 87-75 win over Carl Albert State College. Point guard Porshia Willis added 10 points and led the team with nine assists and seven steals. Also scoring in double figures for the Southwest women were Mary Brown and Kenya Moore with 13 points each.

The Saluqi men made a school record 18 three-point field goals and shot 51 percent from the field to defeat Kennedy-King College 114-70. Lester Hudson scored 17 points, one of six Saluqis who scored in double figures. Other top scorers were Chris Prince (14), Moraye Ivy (12), Mario Lucchesi (11), Nick Covington (10), and Dee Burchett (10).
