SOUTHWEST BASKETBALL TEAMS SWEEP HIWASSEE

The Southwest men’s and women’s basketball teams both had convincing wins over Hiwassee College on Saturday, December 11 in Madisonville, Tennessee with the Lady Saluqis winning 75-58 and the Saluqi men 80-55. The wins improved both teams records to 8-5 on the season.

Imesia Jackson (pictured at left), a freshman forward who has battled injuries for much of the season, had her second outstanding game in a row with 24 points and 11 rebounds. In the Lady Saluqis’ win over Cleveland State, Jackson had career highs of 26 points and 17 rebounds. Other top performers for Southwest were Kenya Moore (13 point, 7 rebounds), Ashley Mason (11 points, 3 assists), and Priscilla Campbell (season-highs of 10 points and 7 rebounds).

The Southwest men played well defensively, forcing 25 turnovers and out-rebounding Hiwassee 47-30. Eleven players scored for the Southwest men, led by Anthony Pigram with 16 points and Jeremy Marrs with 12 points. Lester Hudson and Moraye Ivy added nine points each, and Ivy was also the top rebounder with nine. Point guard Aaron Nichols also played an excellent game, dishing out a season-high 10 assists while committing only two turnovers.
