Antwon Bess and Toriano Stokes scored 16 points each
to lead the Saluqis over Hiwassee College 92-68 at Madisonville, Tennessee
on Saturday afternoon. All thirteen players scored as Southwest won its
sixth in a row, and eighth of the last nine games to improve to 11-4 overall
and 6-0 in the conference. Stokes and Kenneth Bohanna grabbed seven rebounds
each as Southwest dominated the boards 58-43. The Saluqis' next game will be
on Saturday, January 4, against Kennedy-King College at 7:00 p.m. at the
Verties Sails Gymnasium.
In the women's game, Larisha Graves scored a
career-high 33 points, but it wasn't enough as the Lady Saluqis lost to
10th-ranked Hiwassee 106-76. Tiffany Webb added a season-high 15 points and
also led in rebounding with 12, while Jackie Jackson also scored in double
figures with 12 points. The Southwest women, now 4-7 overall and 0-6 in the
conference, return to action on December 28-30, when they travel to East
Peoria, Illinois to compete in the Illinois Central Tournament. Their next
home game is Thursday, January 16 against Itawamba Community College.
