SAILS TO BE INDUCTED INTO MEMPHIS AMATEUR SPORTS HALL OF FAME

Southwest Tennessee Community College head men’s basketball coach and athletic director Verties Sails, Jr. has been selected for induction into the Memphis Amateur Sports Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will take place at the 35th Annual Sports Hall of Fame Banquet at 7 p.m. on Monday, December 6, 2004 at the Hilton Hotel. The banquet will honor men and women who have played major role in sports, helping call public attention to its value in the field of recreation and competition. Induction into the Memphis Amateur Sports Hall of Fame is the most prestigious honor a manager, player, game official, personal contributer, or team sponsor can receive in the Memphis area.

Sails, now in his twenty-sixth season at the College, has compiled a record of 545-222 and has made six trips to the NJCAA National Tournament. He has been named Region VII Coach of the Year nine times, and has guided the Saluqis to 18 West Division titles, 13 Tennessee Junior and Community College Athletic Association championships, and seven Region VII championships.
