SOUTHWEST BASKETBALL TEAMS STAY HOT WITH SWEEPS OF COLUMBIA AND JACKSON
 
The nationally-ranked Southwest men's and women's basketball teams continued their outstanding play and stayed atop the TJCCAA standings with sweeps of Columbia State and Jackson State last week.
 
Last Wednesday night at the Verties Sails Gymnasium, Ashley Shields recorded her third triple-double of the season with 32 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists to lead the 15th-ranked Lady Saluqis to a 90-56 victory over Columbia State.  On Saturday afternoon in Jackson, Tennessee, freshmen Starkitsha Luellen and Daumonique Lenhardt had career highs with 17 and 16 points respectively as Southwest defeated Jackson State 88-59.  The wins improved the Lady Saluqis' record to 19-1 overall and 10-1 in the TJCCAA.
 
In men's action, Donald Boone scored 19 points to lead the 20th-ranked Saluqis past Columbia State 91-82 last Wednesday.  On Saturday, three Southwest players scored at least twenty points in a thrilling 110-101 victory over Jackson State.  Greg Grimes (24), Antonio Young (22), and A.J. Nance (21) led six players who scored in double figures for Southwest.  James Hooper added 11 points and a career-high 13 assists while Chris Evans posted a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.  The Saluqis' record improved to 18-4 overall and 10-1 in the TJCCAA.
 
The Southwest basketball teams return to action this Monday at Dyersburg State then return to the Verties Sails Gymnasium to celebrate Homecoming on Wednesday, February 14, also against Dyersburg State.
